Gena Weir brings more than 25 years of executive leadership experience in healthcare strategy and operations to the Board of Global Health Connections. Currently serving as Director of Strategy and Operations at the University of Colorado, she has led transformative initiatives across a diverse array of healthcare settings—including nonprofit clinics, for-profit organizations, academic medical centers, health systems, and private clinical practices.
Gena holds a Master of Public Health from the Colorado School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Northern Colorado. She is a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE) and a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), bringing both strategic insight and operational discipline to every endeavor.
Her commitment to global health spans over a decade, with on-the-ground experience in Peru, Nepal, Uganda, and Tanzania. Gena has been deeply engaged in initiatives focused on reducing maternal and infant mortality through education, quality improvement, and clinical support. Most recently, she was invited to Nepal in 2024 to implement a hospital-wide quality program and deliver lectures at the School of Medicine and College of Nursing. In global health projects, she has served in varied capacities including mentor, administrator, financial strategist, and systems consultant.
Gena’s leadership philosophy is grounded in collaboration, compassion, and continuous improvement. She is recognized for her ability to align mission-driven initiatives with operational excellence—skills that she now brings to Global Health Connections to support its mission of connecting communities, expanding access to economic development opportunities that are sustainable worldwide.
A Colorado native, Gena embraces the state’s active outdoor culture and enjoys skiing, hiking, cycling, yoga, and travel. She lives in Denver with her husband, Pat, and is the proud mother of two daughters, Jillian, and Marissa.
